About the Artist
Nancy Rivers is an emerging artist who for several years has collected and admired contemporary and early painters of the Southwest and Alaska. Born and raised in PA, she ventured north to Fairbanks, Alaska in 1977. For three decades Nancy lived an unconventional life by Lower 48 standards. She spent several years in a “dry” cabin (without running water), felled trees on her property for a log home, and raised, trained and raced sled dogs in Alaska and throughout the country. During that time she also received her B.S. in Biology and M.Ed. in Higher Education from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. She continued working at the University for 27 years, culminating her career as Director of Admissions in 2007. She currently resides with her husband in both North Pole, Alaska and Tubac, Arizona, which allows her to observe and experience the contrasts between two very unique environments.
Nancy is self taught and began painting in 2014. She uses oils with brush and palette knife to capture the beauty we tend to miss in our busy lives. Her works are a blend of her creativity, use of color and continued experimentation. She has received guidance by such talented artists as Larisa Aukon, Michelle Usibelli, Phil Starke, Jim Wodark and David Simons. She is an Associate Member of Oil Painters of America.
